The 14th Childline Birthday Party attended by around 700 children was held at the BMC Krida Bhavan at Shivaji Park, Mumbai. 45 of our officers volunteered for the party activities. The preparations started early by around 2 pm and our officers provided assistance for decorating the venue. They also helped in ushering the children to and from the buses, manning the counters of water, food, games, Tattoo and Mehndi, etc.
The Party proved to be memorable in many ways. Axis Bank officers interacted with the children. While some employees brought their kids along, it was really a worthy sight to see both the parents and the children enjoy the Party along with the Birthday boys and girls. The children were kept entertained by the performance of international clowns, games, tattoos, styling hair to give a party look, dance performances and the likes.
Having lived a tough life on the streets, this occasion brings a lot of cheer to the lives of the children because of the feeling of being loved and accepted by the Society. The Party ended with a Biryani Treat which all the children relished before being packed in the buses and going back.

A} Joy of Giving Week 2009
The Joy of Giving week 2009, a Give India initiative, was the beginning of a national movement, perhaps the first of its kind for India.
It provides a platform for all across the country to celebrate the joy of giving. This is an opportunity for all to reach out to someone less privileged - by donating money, volunteering time, providing one's skills and even just saying a kind word to someone who may not have expected it.
It is a great platform for NGOs to create their own fund-raising events, get their supporters to raise funds for them and to spread awareness for their work and their cause. 100% of what is raised through this week will go to the organisation. Axis Bank Foundation supported 5 initiatives during the JOG Week held from 26th Sept to 3rd Oct 2009:
Goonj
Goonj is working towards making clothing a matter of concern. Any cloth or material lying unused in the cities is collected and distributed to the needy in the rural parts of India.
Axis Bank Foundation had assigned 30 of Axis Bank branches to act as a collecting centre where staff as well as customers could donate their old/unused clothes. Two boxes each were sent to these 30 branches for collection. All branches actively participated in the cause. Goonj and their representatives from the various cities later picked up the clothes collected by these branches.
Catalysts
for Social Action
CSA is a social welfare organisation focusing on adoption and institutionalised childcare.
CSA put up their stall at 15 Axis Bank branches across Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar.
The main aim of this initiative was to:
- Raise funds
- Spread awareness.
Axis Bank had sponsored Rs. 1 Lakh for the production of handmade paper photo frames, which in turn was given out to any person making donations across their counters at 15 Axis Bank branches. Donors were also given a book published by CSA which has articles written by celebrities like Ms. Sushmita Sen, Raveena Tandon, Sandeep Soparrkar, etc. who support and follow the cause of 'adoption' in their personal lives.
The intimation regarding this initiative was sent to the bank's customers via mail much before the event.
CSA raised considerable amount of donation during the Joy of Giving Week.
Movie show

As an initiative to involve the Mumbai staff in the Joy of Giving Week, ABF had organised a screening of the movie Do Knot Disturb, for our office boys on 2nd Oct, 2009. 550 seats were booked in 2 shows at a popular theatre. The idea being, the tickets for the boys had to be purchased by their respective departments, by way of contribution. Branches were very excited with the concept and even branches as far as Nerul and Kalyan were eager to send their office boys for the movie show. This was one way of expressing thanks to our office boys.
The show was attended in full capacity and the boys were served snacks in their seats. They thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the snacks with their friends. The show was a huge success and we received a lot of appreciation from the staff as well as the office boys for this gesture.
