Agriculture is the breadwinning sector of Indian economy providing employment to more than half of the workforce of the country. However, majority of the marginal farmers are dependent on subsistence livelihood and use traditional methods of cultivation like manual ploughing, and old system of irrigation leading to low productivity of agriculture.

Axis Bank Foundation has collaborated with Tata Trust (TT) to bring rural and tribal households out of poverty with sustainable livelihood interventions.

The project would be co funded and jointly managed by TT and ABF and implemented by 3 NGOs, namely 1.Collective for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives(CInI) 2.Center for Microfinance (CmF) 3.Himmothan Society (HS) To propel its mission, TT is working on the promotion and strengthening of institutions that are the base for the core work being undertaken. Various livelihood prototypes in agriculture, livestock and Non-Timber Forest Produce have been promoted along with Water Resource Development. The principles of innovation and being demand-led, instead of a stereotypical approach, are at the core of initiatives. The partnership aims to transform the lives of tribal households through building knowledge and scaling up the programme in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), micro finance and strengthening of community based institutions. The project will also focus on livelihood layering, ensuring households are involved in various livelihood activities to handle risks and provide them with the assured yearly returns.
