Chhattisgarh, the rice bowl of India, famous for its lush forests and serene beauty, has many developmental problems that the state's people face like poverty, agrarian distress and low social and human development. Majority of farmers still use traditional farming methods and rely on monsoons, resulting in low growth and crop productivity.

As significant investors in development of rural livelihoods, a joint project has been initiated by Axis Bank Foundation and Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation in partnership with Department of Rural Development, Government of Chhattisgarh.

The overall goal of the project is to double the income of 1, 00,000 small and marginal households by undertaking land and water treatment and improving cropping capacity of about 3.50 hectare of land. The focus will also be on building capacities of the front line functionaries, PRIs, community members and CSOs on ridge to valley principle of watershed implementation.
