Udalguri block of Assam records high incidence of multidimensional poverty as per Socio-economic and Caste census 2011. The poverty in the region is more acute with the tea tribes (Adibasi), Rabha, Garoand Bodo tribes. The primary source of livelihood is subsistent agriculture comprising of paddy cultivationin Kharif season and rearing pigs and goats in small scale. Inspite of having good water sources forirrigation, there is lack of water lifting facility, capital, and technical knowledge, forward and backward market linkage which prevents farmers to go for large scale commercial agriculture.
Axis Bank Foundation has partnered with Kabil and Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) to improve livelihoods through productivity enhancement linked to entrepreneurship development and market linkages.
The project would be implemented with the existing SHGs and Community institutions promoted by ASRLM. These members would be trained to deploy and utilize the funds received from ASRLM foreffective livelihood interventions. The project envisages enhancing the income of the household by implementation of different rural livelihood interventions through productivity enhancement,entrepreneurship development and market linkages.
